Yes. WireMapper is free to use. Create an account and start diagramming. It was built because most working AV engineers don't have a budget line for diagramming software, and the alternatives cost more than a week of gigs.
If it earns its keep on a job, the support page is open. It's never required.
An account is required for the cloud-hosted version so your projects can be saved and synced across devices. If you need to work fully offline, get in touch on the support page and we'll point you toward the local-file version.
On the sign-in page, use the "Forgot password" link. A reset email will be sent to your address. If you don't see it, check your spam folder.
.wmp portable format, backups.WireMapper auto-saves your work to the cloud every 2 seconds after a change. The toolbar shows a "Saved" indicator with how long ago the last save occurred. You can also press the Save button to force an immediate save.
.wmp file?
+
A .wmp (WireMapper Project) file is a portable JSON export of your entire diagram: devices, wires, bundles, terminus flags, viewport state, and title-block data.
Download one from Export → Download .wmp as a backup, or to move a project between accounts. Import it back via the Projects panel → Import .wmp.
Projects are stored in the cloud and accessible from any browser. For a local backup, use Export → Download .wmp. This exports a full copy of the project as a file on your computer that you can re-import at any time.
Yes. Use the Projects button in the toolbar to see all your projects, open a different one, create a new one, or delete old ones.
WireMapper supports 17 connector types:
Each connector also carries a direction: IN, OUT, or Bidirectional.
Yes. WireMapper does not strictly enforce signal-type matching. This is intentional: AV systems often use adapters, and you may want to document a physical connection regardless of whether it's a "correct" signal pairing.
Currently the best way to share is to export a .wmp file and send it. The recipient can import it into their own WireMapper account. Read-only share links are planned for a future update.
Use the + New Stencil button in the library sidebar to open the Builder drawer. Define the manufacturer, model, type, and all connectors. Your custom stencil is saved to your library for re-use.
See the Device Library section of the guide for full instructions.
SVG (vector), PNG (raster, 2× resolution), and Engineering Drawing (PDF or SVG with border and title block). See the Exporting section of the guide for details.
The drawing scales all content to fit the selected page size. If your diagram is very large, try a larger page size. ANSI D at 22×34″ is the largest option. Diagrams with content spread very far apart may need to be split across multiple sheets.
WireMapper works in all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. It requires JavaScript enabled. Internet Explorer is not supported.
Use the contact options on the support page. Stencil requests and feature ideas are welcome. The default library grows based on what the community is actually using.
Use the contact link on the support page. Include a description of what happened, what you expected, and your browser/OS if possible. It makes the fix faster.
The guide covers the workflow end-to-end. If neither the guide nor the FAQ helps, the support page has a direct contact link.
